Our Wealth and Personal Banking business supports millions of individuals, families, business owners, investors and entrepreneurs worldwide. We provide products and services that include current accounts, credit cards, personal loans and mortgages, as well as savings, investments, insurance and wealth management. We also have specialised relationship managers who support customers with bespoke requirements, including high net worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients.

The Credit Risk Oversight Team sits within the second line of defence and plays a critical role in independently assessing the effectiveness of credit risk management across the Bank’s UK retail lending portfolios.  The team provides oversight of the full credit lifecycle – from origination through to collections and recoveries – ensuring that risks are appropriately identified, assessed and managed in line with the bank’s risk appetite and regulatory expectations.  In addition to challenging credit strategies and decisioning frameworks, the team also plays a vital role in ensuring delivery of good outcomes for our customers.

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you will have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.

In this role you will:

  • Oversight of Credit Risk policies and strategies; including Secured and Unsecured Acquisition and Portfolio Management, Underwriting Services and Financial Support (Collections & Recoveries) to determine whether policy is being executed as intended.
  • Conduct thematic reviews and deep dives into areas of credit risk concern or materiality.
  • Oversight of First Line of Defence (FLoD) Quality Assurance and Outcome Testing framework and its execution to ensure accurate measurement of customer outcomes.
  • Support development of oversight methodology to facilitate effective analysis and challenge of the adequacy of credit risk management and control design and operation.
  • Build and maintain strong and trusting relationships with stakeholders across FLoD operational and monitoring teams and Second Line of Defence (SLoD) credit risk teams to achieve a common understanding of the business, processes and procedures and support resolution of any issues.
  • Support the production of insightful credit risk oversight management information.
  • Review and assess credit risk reports, MI and dashboards in order to identify emerging risks and trends to feed into the credit risk oversight plan.
  • Support change initiatives and operational change programmes.
  • Support an open and collaborative oversight culture that encourages transparency and identify opportunities to enhance working practices.
  • Provide general guidance/direction to mentor members of the team/wider teams to develop their skills.

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Sound understanding of the management of credit risk and credit risk strategies, policies and procedures in a retail banking environment.
  • Knowledge of retail credit products and the risks associated with these products.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret information and provide meaningful insights.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and ability to deal with multiple stakeholders at any one time.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills; including experience of writing clear and concise reports and presenting these to stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of risk and control frameworks, particularly within the 2nd line of defence or audit functions.
  • A desire to continuously improve processes and the way we do things.

The base location for the role is Leeds or Sheffield.  Occasional travel will be required between these locations.
