Role purpose

 

To support the delivery of HSBC UK’s AI strategy by identifying high-impact use cases—particularly in fraud detection, customer experience, and operational efficiency—and developing secure, ethical AI solutions. This graduate/postgraduate role bridges academic knowledge with real-world application, contributing to platform governance and working closely with cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders.

In this role you will:-

•    Define and execute HSBC UK’s AI strategy, evaluating and prioritizing use cases that align with enterprise goals, and regularly reporting progress to the UK CEO and Executive Committee.
•    Identify and develop impactful AI opportunities across fraud detection, customer service, operational efficiency, and risk management by researching and applying cutting-edge AI/ML technologies.
•    Design, build, and deploy AI-powered platforms, focusing on use cases such as fraud market analysis and contact centre transformation, while ensuring scalability, security, and usability across business units.
•    Establish and govern AI development environments, enabling responsible solution development and deployment through best practices in software engineering, model lifecycle management, and technical governance.
•    Ensure compliance with data privacy, cybersecurity, and ethical AI standards, embedding fairness, transparency, and accountability in all AI solutions in line with regulatory and internal risk frameworks.
•    Collaborate with cross-functional teams and influence senior stakeholders, integrating AI seamlessly into existing systems while promoting business adoption and strategic alignment across departments.

 

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:-


•    Foundational to advanced knowledge of AI/ML concepts, including algorithms, neural networks, natural language processing (NLP), and deep learning—gained through academic research, dissertations, or project work.
•    Hands-on experience with data science tools and platforms, such as Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-learn, and exposure to cloud services like AWS, Azure, or GCP during academic or internship projects.
•    Understanding of data handling and privacy principles, including awareness of GDPR and the importance of cybersecurity and compliance in AI systems, especially in regulated industries like finance.
•    Experience developing AI models in educational or internship settings, with awareness of version control, testing, and ethical considerations such as fairness, bias, and model transparency.
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate technical findings into business-relevant insights through reports, presentations, or visualizations.
•    Effective communication and teamwork abilities, developed through academic collaboration or work placements—comfortable engaging with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
