As a Managing Director, Private Bank Relationship Manager, you will lead the acquisition, maintenance, and growth of profitable long-term relationships with Private Bank individuals. You will drive strategic client engagement, oversee complex risk management, and ensure exceptional credit quality and returns on risk. The MD will also shape business development initiatives, mentor senior team members, and represent HSBC at the highest levels within the industry.

Strategic Client Leadership:

  • Build, maintain, and deepen relationships with the most influential Private Bank clients, often including family offices, foundations, and C-suite executives
  • Develop and execute bespoke financial strategies aligned with clients’ global objectives and complex structures
  • Serve as a trusted advisor, proactively identifying opportunities for portfolio growth, cross-border solutions, and holistic wealth management

Business Development & Brand Representation:

  • Lead business development efforts, including high-profile networking and industry events, to expand HSBC’s Private Bank client base and market presence
  • Represent HSBC at industry forums, panels, and client events, enhancing the brand’s reputation and visibility

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Mentor and guide senior Relationship Managers and junior team members, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence
  • Lead cross-functional teams (investment, trust, tax, credit, legal) to deliver integrated solutions for clients
  • Establish and maintain networks across HSBC businesses, supporting solutions that span geographical and product boundaries

Operational Effectiveness & Control

  • Oversee risk assessment and management for the Private Bank portfolio, ensuring alignment with HSBC’s risk appetite and regulatory standards
  • Partner with Compliance, Legal, and Risk teams to identify, escalate, and mitigate risks related to client portfolios and transactions
  • Ensure timely implementation of audit points and regulatory requirements

Management of Risk

  • Monitor portfolio exposures (concentration, liquidity, leverage) and ensure alignment with client objectives and risk tolerance
  • Identify operational inefficiencies and drive process improvements to enhance client experience and reduce risk
  • Ensure adherence to data privacy and cybersecurity standards

Observation of Internal Controls

  • Participate in internal audits, control reviews and remediation efforts as needed

Qualifications

  • FINRA license Series 7 & 66 (or equivalent, as required)
  • Proven experience in wealth management, with a proven track record managing Private Bank clients and complex portfolios
  • Demonstrated success in asset gathering, asset growth, and revenue generation at the MD level
  • Highly developed communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills for direct client contact and strategic influence
  • Deep understanding of financial markets, products, and global wealth management trends
  • Ability to provide advanced financial and statistical analysis
  • Strong knowledge of financial products: equities, fixed income, alternatives, insurance, and cross-border solutions
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, or related field required; advanced degree (MBA, JD, etc.) preferred
  • Professional certifications such as CFP, CFA, or equivalent highly desirable
  • Experience leading teams and mentoring senior professionals

Your final fixed pay offer will depend on the candidate and several variables, including but not limited to, role responsibilities, skill set, depth of experience and education, licensing/certification requirements, internal relativity, and specific work location.
