Head of Markets & Securities Services Operations

Position Overview

The role provides senior management oversight of operational activities supporting the Markets and Securities Services business within the local market. It is accountable for delivering consistently high-quality service, driving process simplification, and strengthening alignment and synergies across operational teams. The role also ensures effective local decision-making through clear governance and timely escalation of material issues when required. 

The primary responsibility of the MSS Operations Head is to build and sustain an operating model that is scalable, resilient, and fit for the local market’s current and future environment.

Responsibilities:

• Leadership & decision-making: The role requires clear decision-making skills on a regular basis on issues ranging from cost, client service, technology, process improvement, risk management / compliance and people.
• Evolving Environment: The operating environment is constantly changing in respect to products, clients, processes, regulations, competitors etc. The role requires to help the teams to quickly adapt to the dynamic environment and delivers consistent service.
• Risk Management / Internal controls: The products traded and services offered by MSS business are complex in nature with regulatory risk exposure. The role needs to have a complete understanding of the products and services, plus a front to back understanding on risk exposure and the respective control requirement.
• Operational Efficiency / Productivity: MSS business typically operates in a competitive environment. This requires constantly evaluate and re-design processes to improve efficiency and productivity include adopting the best practices from other markets.
• People Management: The role will manage a large operation workforce with diverse background and is expected to ensure adequate engagement across teams and promote a speak up culture

Qualifications:

• 8+ years of experience in the finance/capital market industry, ideally in operations supporting investment  transaction banking, broker, asset management,or securities services business.
• Strong product knowledge and understanding on clients’ requirement and industry practices.
• Experience in managerial role(s).
• Strong Communication Skills; ability to articulate complex issues concisely and in clear language.
• Ability to identify, manage and mitigate risk effectively; strong awareness on conduct-risk and other Non-financial risk elements applicable to Operations.
• Strong problem-solving capability, able to multi-task well under pressure and in times of ambiguity. Organized with systemic approach to programme execution.
• Experienced people management and organization skills.
• Experience in working with a wider group of stakeholders including Front Office, Product Control and Technology.
• Experience in managing regulators, vendors and other external stakeholders.
