We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of VP Payments Risk, Operations NFR.

In this role, you will:

  • The Payments Risk Oversight team has been established to strengthen the governance and control environment across payments effected across all business lines within MSS Operations. Specific and careful focus is placed around Manual Payments to bring consistency and standardization across the MSS Operations Manual Payments environment. The role holder is responsible to support the Payment Risk Oversight team, combining elements of specialist SME knowledge on payments controls with the application of and adherence to the Group Risk Framework.
  • The Payment Risk Oversight function is responsible for all aspects of payments risk oversight across MSS Operations. The role holder is expected to build a controlled environment for MSS Operations payments, with clear accountability for payments risk governed via appropriate controls, metrics and senior management-attended forums. The role holder will interact and liaise with MSS Operations processing teams executing payments, be part of strategy and change decisions around Payments infrastructure and strive to make MSS Operations best in class across the HSBC group with regards to Payments Controls.
  • The role holder will be responsible for pro-actively monitoring and improving the overall health of MSS Operations Payment Risk Oversight, including ensuring appropriate implementation and operation of payments controls.
  • The role will cultivate and reinforce positive risk culture and client service ethos relative to payments, driving behaviors and shaping outcomes across MSS Operations that contribute to a seamless and low-risk payments experience for MSS Operations’ clients and business partners.
  • The role holder will deliver against the MSS Operations NFR Book of Work, specifically to improve the risk and control landscape relevant to the Payments landscape in MSS Operations.
  • Contribute to defining and oversee the operation of relevant controls around Payments across MSS Operations.
  • Deliver against the Payment Risk Oversight Book of Work, established to improve the payments landscape within MSS Operations. Review existing controls executed for payments across MSS Operations. Look in enhance, develop, replace where necessary.
  • Ensure seamless coverage and representation across both Markets and Security Services businesses. Work with the team to collate a monthly governance forum, Facilitate the meeting, bringing accountability to the Control Owners, and Senior Leaders in attendance.

To be successful you will:

  • Good working knowledge and appreciation for risk management across strategies, capabilities, and governance
  • Strong knowledge of the external environment – regulatory, political, competitors, innovation etc.
  • Ideally, end to end experience in MSS Operations products and flows including payments (ideally 10 years +)
  • Experience / potential in leading a multi-discipline function on a global basis
  • Basic knowledge of SWIFT and HSBC payments landscapes and flows including GPS, GMG etc., an advantage
  • Ability to establish and maintain good relationship across multiple business lines, service providers, asset classes and MSS Operations regional and operational hubs
  • Proven ability in working across multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural diverse work environments
  • Proven ability to articulate complex issues concisely and in clear language
