Job Title: Senior Business Consultant

Digital Business Services (DBS) Transformation:

  • Senior Business Consultants are at the centre of how transformation shapes, delivers, and embeds change, working with the business and our delivery partners. They will have proven experience of successfully shaping and executing against the overall programme Objectives & Key Results (OKRs).
  • Incumbents will be accountable for the timely and high-quality delivery of programmes, adhering to HSBC core practices & frameworks (Change Framework, Value Streams, Agile).
  • They will be responsible for managing Customer & Business outcomes, costs, headcount, risks, and issues and will work to ensure benefits and values are realised.
  • Be a trusted partner to senior executive leaders across DBS, you will identify innovative commercial opportunities while ensuring that the design is shaped by customer, cost, controls, colleague, and sustainability outcomes. You will challenge constructively to design solutions tailored to stakeholder needs and influence stakeholders to focus efforts accordingly and deprioritize where required.

 

Governance and Committee Memberships (membership of ExCos, Risk Management Meeting)

  • Senior Business Consultant chairs or participates in Steering Committees.
  • Senior Business Consultant chairs Project Working Groups.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Lead large-scale, cross-functional problem framing and solution design to translate complex business drivers into clear opportunities, target outcomes, and future-state Target Operating Models aligned to Business Architecture; bring industry best practice and innovation.
  • Shape portfolio/programme direction by defining the problem statement, design principles, solution options, and recommended approach; secure alignment on scope, outcomes, benefits, KPIs, budget, schedule, and resourcing with senior stakeholders across Business, Technology, and Operations.
  • Run structured design thinking and discovery (workshops, journey mapping, root-cause analysis, data insights) to create delivery-ready artefacts: target processes, operating model changes, requirements, and decision papers.
  • Manage senior stakeholders and executive leaders: build trusted relationships with ExCo/MD-level sponsors, shape narratives and decision papers, facilitate executive forums and drive timely decisions, trade-offs, and alignment across competing priorities.
  • Partner with programme and delivery teams to translate designs into execution plans and backlogs, removing ambiguity, accelerating decisions, and resolving issues quickly to maintain momentum.
  • Provide governance and executive reporting focused on outcomes: maintain a single source of truth for prioritisation, decisions, escalations, QBRs, and benefits/KPI tracking (baseline, targets, realised value).
  • Drive impact measurement and benefits realisation: define measurement approach, validate adoption and performance improvements, and course-correct based on data and feedback.
  • Enable sustainable change and BAU transition through robust change management and adoption (communications, training, operational readiness), embedding continuous improvement.
  • Lead global/regional change using iterative delivery and design thinking; stay adaptable in planning/prioritisation and lead inclusively through delegation, recognition, and diverse teams.

 

To be successful you will:

  • Banking/financial services experience across multiple lines of business.
  • Strong grasp of complex business drivers; structured problem-solving, critical thinking, and design-led solutioning in ambiguous environments.
  • Proven ability to define business cases, benefits, KPIs/OKRs, baselines, targets, and measurement methods; comfortable using data to drive decisions.
  • Excellent stakeholder management: simplify complex topics, influence decisions, facilitate workshops, and build credibility with senior leaders.
  • Demonstrated experience decomposing complex change into modular delivery plans/backlogs, coordinating across cross-functional teams to drive timely decisions and outcomes.
  • Inclusive, collaborative leader; recognised mentor/role model with a strong sense of ownership and pace.
