We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Associate - Corporate Banking.

In this role, you will:

  • Credit & Capital Management team under Corporate and Institutional Banking are implementing a new, modern, and consistent End to End operating model, of which a key component is the introduction of a first line credit management office. The Business Credit Office function will complete tasks including structuring, credit analysis and rating recommendation, client credit monitoring tasks, credit terms and docs negotiation with Wholesale Credit & Market Risk and clients acting as a single handoff from a Relationship Manager to the Business Credit Office for all Credit & Capital Management tasks, creating a single control point. 
  • The Senior Associate Business Credit Office provides client support to Relationship Managers / Coverage and facilitates client review and renewal activities, and is responsible for carrying out customer research, financial and credit analysis on behalf of the Relationship Managers. Responsible for the delivery of Business Credit Office tasks in line with agreed Objectives and Key Results, Service Level Agreements and Key Performance Indicators. Support the end-to-end Credit & Capital Management servicing journey, ensuring a seamless and efficient process for both customers and internal stakeholders.
  • The role holder is responsible for coordinating and completing credit applications or renewals as well as managing risk escalation.  Additionally, they may support client management.  In discharging their duties, the role holder must implement a common, reliable, and predictable underwriting and lending process, that protects the business from exposure, whilst responding to clients’ borrowing needs.  The role holder will report to the Assistant Vice President - Lead, Business Credit Office and will work closely with the Coverage and Transaction Support teams to ensure seamless customer experience and consistency of service for all customers.
  • The team will also provide a pivotal support system for our aiding activities throughout the Credit & Capital Management cycle. Additionally, the Sustainability Analysis Unit contributes significantly to the Group's reporting. The unit serves as a crucial instrument enabling the Bank to achieve its net-zero objectives, which include assisting our clients on their transition journeys, enhancing long-term climate risk/portfolio management, and providing timely financing support for our clients
  • Assist the Relationship Manager with credit analysis and the timely submission of credit proposals for facilities for both existing and prospective clients. Liaise with relevant teams for the preparation of facility letters and any other internal security documents.  Ensure completeness of security documentation prepared by external legal counsel. Proactively manage the credit quality of the supported portfolio by conducting periodic credit reviews; tracking and reporting of compliance with covenants and conditions of approval; and promptly escalating deviations to the Risk team for resolution. 
  • Ensure the consistent application of HSBC policies and adherence to regulatory, financial, and legal standards to minimize business and reputational risks. Support the Assistant Vice President-Lead and Team Lead on ad-hoc requirements and other strategic initiatives to streamline and simplify end-to end Credit & Capital Management process. Participate in deal discussions and meetings with clients as required. Protect the Bank by acting as First Line of Defense and adhering to all controls.
  • Maintain HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit recommendations, along with addressing any issues raised by external regulators. Ensure that all work is delivered within agreed timeframes, Performance Level Agreement and meets the required high-quality standard. Understand and comply with all relevant policies, Functional Instruction Manual guidelines and procedures issued by the Group.
  • Adhering strictly to compliance and operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC and regulatory standards, policies and practices; reporting weaknesses, compliance breaches and operational loss events. Staying abreast of latest guidelines and procedures, Functional Instruction Manual and other regional policy guidelines, ensuring necessary guidance is provided to the team. Analysis and investigation of Wholesale portfolio exposure for the Thermal Coal Phase Out Policy (TCPOP) applicability (both lending & capital market transactions) and exposure weighting calculations for eligible counterparties, along with assurance support for reporting. 

To be successful, you will:

  • Graduation / Post Graduation in Management /Finance/ Economics, or equivalent such as a Chartered Accountant, CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst), FRM (Financial Risk Manager) or equivalent or as per local market conditions.
  • 4 to 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Capital markets certifications in Mutual Funds, Derivatives, Stock Markets, etc. would be an added advantage. Good understanding of various financing instruments and banking products in corporate banking, financial principles and concepts, budgeting, financial forecasting, financial analysis, Environmental, Social and Governance and Climate Risk - Understanding Environmental, Social and Governance policies and their implementation using annual reports, Corporate Social Responsibility / Sustainability reports and other company filings.
  • Adhering strictly to compliance and operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC and regulatory standards, policies and practices; reporting weaknesses, compliance breaches and operational loss events.
  • Understanding of risk management principles and practices. This includes the ability to identify, assess, and mitigate risks that could impact the business
  • Comprehensive understanding of risk management and proven experience in ensuring compliance (self and others) with organizational and regulatory requirements. Understanding of the financial sector complete with latest developments. Basic Knowledge of Foreign Exchange, Derivatives and other Treasury Products is a must.
  • Must have a clear understanding of the Credit Risk aspect of Treasury products. Candidate’s current/past profiles should have involved extensive interactions with diverse stakeholders. Highly proficient at Excel and Word. Database skills will be an advantage. Ability to learn new systems quickly is necessary.
  • Analytical with a keen eye for details. Strong communication (Verbal and Written) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders. Keep up to date on the Functional Instruction Manual guidelines and credit policies.
