Our global team of finance professionals in Finance Operations partner with the business to provide trusted insights and forward-looking analysis, accuracy, efficiency, and control to frame and influence business decisions.

 

Finance Operations is an integral part of FS&GEC (Finance, Sustainability and Group External Communications ), supporting teams across the globe through high quality service delivery across a broad range of finance activities. Finance Operations works as one connected team of c3k FTEs (Full Time Employee) (c35% of Global Finance) organized across key global processes in multiple locations in India, Poland, and Mexico.

 

The Management Reporting team supporting FP&A (Financial Planning and Analysis) Strategic Cost Management and Group Infrastructure teams are responsible for providing the Group with strategic insights into cost drivers for each of the Global Businesses and Global Functions, helping the Group to manage and deliver against commitments to a reduced cost base.

 

This is a senior FP&A Cost Management role accountable for end-to-end service delivery across Cost Data Management, Cost Reporting, and Cost Analytics. The role supports FP&A and Business Pillars (including CIB (Corporate and Institutional Banking), IWPB (International Wealth and Premier Banking), and Regional FP&A) and contributes to FRP (Financial Resource Planning) / forecasting processes and broader financial performance management across the Group.

 

The role holder will build strong, effective relationships across a wide stakeholder network and senior leadership, providing executive MI, insights, and constructive challenge with an independent perspective. They will act as a key face-off between Finance Operations teams, country stakeholders, FinOps senior management, and country/regional/global CFO (Chief Financial Officer) teams.

 

The role has significant exposure to senior management across Group, CIB, IWPB, UK and HK businesses, Regional Finance, and Group SCM (Strategic Cost Management). The jobholder must demonstrate strong credibility and gravitas, including providing financial review and assurance of actions to meet FRPs to the Business COO (Chief Operating Officer) community and Finance leadership (including business CFO, FP&A, and Head of SCM).

 

Key focus: partnering with Business COOs, including:

 

  • Develop detailed understanding of functional cost drivers and key assumptions to estimate impact from scenarios being analysed for both direct and indirect costs and restructuring costs.
  • Work with Global Finance Cost teams to analyse costs under given scenarios, including impacts to operational costs and restructuring costs.
  • Driving process improvement and creating a change culture within the team to ensure continuous and on-going improvement and build agility across the team.
  • Establishing a position to influence and challenge to deliver the right outcomes.
  • Acting as the key point of contact on financial matters.
  • Providing insights and options across finance and broader business topics (“seat at the table”).
  • Supporting workforce planning requirements.
  • Supporting investment cases end-to-end (business case formalisation, CTB (Change the Bank) forums linkage, and funding-related finance management).

 

Principal Responsibilities:

 

The role holder will be accountable and responsible for oversight of all cost management reporting requirements for the Business/Region. This includes, but is not limited to:

 

  • Group and Regional costs team engagement to ensure an effective and efficient cost assessment approach and process.
  • Strategic Planning cost lead for Group and regulatory stress testing exercises.
  • Lead coordination, consolidation, review, and challenge of business plans and forecasts covering the income statement, balance sheet, cost analysis, and other performance measures.
  • Responsible for reviewing and re-defining the associated processes, where required, to enhance controls and documentation, remove manual processes, and deepen the expertise and understanding of the teams supporting these processes to be able to effectively quality assure the associated outputs.
  • Provide quantitative and qualitative analysis to support decision-making, maintaining regular engagement with senior management.
  • Deliver best-in-class forward-looking COST MI (Management Information) and insights to maximize performance and support delivery of financial targets.
  • Ensure monthly production of ad hoc reporting to internal stakeholders, including OpCo, and support quarterly reporting requirements.
  • Produce clear, well-structured papers for OpCo and other senior committees.
  • Drive enhancements to performance analysis across products and markets, including variance analysis of forecasts versus actuals.
  • Lead digitisation of MI and FP&A cost processes using modern tools and technologies (including AI), partnering with Business teams and the COO function.
  • Assess business plans under different scenarios, including iterations to business strategy, to steer performance and ensure targets are achieved.
  • Act as a strategic partner to the Global Head of FP&A, providing rapid responses, financial expertise, and ad hoc analysis focused on cost efficiencies and direct/indirect costs.
  • Oversee timely delivery and continuous development of external and internal reporting requirements for the region and Group Functions, ensuring clear understanding of performance drivers and impacts on Group results.
  • Maintain active engagement with the Business/Entity to understand key business drivers and core components.
  • Drive continuous process simplification and automation.
  • Ensure a robust control environment across reporting and data sources.
  • Proactively identify opportunities and support execution of strategic projects and commercial initiatives, representing Finance in key forums as required.

Requirements:

 

  • Recognized professional accounting qualification (CA) or MBA from Tier1 Institute with minimum of 20+ years of experience predominantly in Finance, including in leadership positions managing complex requirements from senior stakeholders.
  • Experience of operating and influencing in senior governance forums, handling auditors.
  • Strong experience and understanding across financial accounting, financial reporting and extensive experience of business partnering in a Business / Group facing process.
  • Strong understanding of banking and non-banking products/ segments.
  • Strong formal written reporting skills and experience of drafting papers for Board-level audiences.
  • Create culture of innovation, experimentation (including failure and learnings from those failures), sharing and collaborating.
  • Proven track record of designing, implementing and operating processes.
  • Operations management including process governance and stakeholder management.
  • Experience in designing, implementing and validating the effectiveness of process controls.
