Job Title: Product Owner - CIB - MSS
MSS Operations is delivering a multi-year transformation strategy known as Rubix. Within Rubix, the Workflow Orchestration Programme is a flagship initiative enabling MSS Operations’ transformation agenda.
We’re looking for a dynamic and experienced Senior Product Owner to lead delivery of key platform features and capabilities required to onboard operations teams/users and execute a prioritised backlog. You’ll contribute to the Workflow & Orchestration roadmap and drive delivery across MSS Operations as the platform grows through a multi-year roadmap.
In this role, you will:
Strategy & Roadmap Alignment
- Align delivery plans with the product vision and strategy set by the Chief Product Owner.
- Contribute to refining the product roadmap based on customer feedback and evolving business needs
- Backlog Management
- Own and maintain the features and capabilities backlog, including demand intake from operations area product owners and review through the prioritisation forum.
- Own product backlog(s) and prioritisation to ensure items are fit for purpose, actively used, and aligned to strategic direction.
- Keep the backlog visible, clear, and transparent to relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure the backlog is ready for sprint planning, including well-defined user stories, acceptance criteria, and dependencies.
Sprint Planning & Delivery Assurance
- Define sprint goals and guide PODs to deliver value within agreed timeframes, aligned to the vision and roadmap.
- Work closely with Agile PODs to review delivery progress each sprint and assure outcomes against expectations.
- Communicate priorities clearly and make trade-offs transparent across the workstream.
- Data Governance & Delivering Value through Data
- Implement and maintain robust data governance practices, including data lineage, data stacks, data models – that support and enable data driven decision making, powered through analytics, AI and ML capabilities
Collaboration and Stakeholder Management
- Act as a primary point of contact for internal customers/stakeholders to gather requirements, address queries and manage expectations.
- Collaborate with business owners, operations champions and delivery teams to define and refine product requirements
- Facilitate alignment between the stakeholders and delivery teams, ensuring a common and shared understanding of goals and deliverables.
- Create a working environment to share best practices.
Continuous Improvement
- Monitor product performance and gather feedback from users to enrich the product backlog with enhancements and features.
- Identify opportunities to enhance team processes and remove impediments to delivery.
- Vendor Partnership alignment
- Partner with Service Now to understand their roadmap, schedule the adoption of new features and lobby for new features from their core product where required
Management of Risk and Internal Controls:
- Maintain strong awareness of factors that could lead to financial loss and the controls that mitigate those risks.
- Strong awareness of the Operational Risk scenario associated with the role and act in a manner that takes account of operational risk considerations.
- Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
- Understand and comply with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations, and procedures, including Internal Controls and Compliance policies.
Leadership and Teamwork:
- Collaborate with stakeholders across Operations, Change and Technology.
- Lead by example and ensure staff are supported to deliver outstanding results.
- Strong leadership skills and ability to manage work independently without any supervision.

To be successful you will:
- Strong understanding of the latest developments and implementation experience of AI (including Agentic AI) and Data Analytics
Skills & Experience:
- Strong experience as a Product Owner in an Agile environment.
- Good knowledge of MSS Operations and/or Financial Services operations.
- Experience delivering large, complex operational change from initiation through deployment.
- Customer-centric mindset with a focus on high-impact outcomes.
- Strong understanding of Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and best practices.
- Strong interpersonal skills to bridge technical and non-technical teams and facilitate discussions/negotiations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
- Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills and ability to connect data capabilities to business goals.
- Ability to lead without authority and influence cross-functional teams to deliver business value.
- Experience leveraging emerging technologies to support broader change agendas and solve complex problems.
- Desirable: understanding of data models, analytics, integration, and database design concepts.
- Desirable: experience with ServiceNow workflow solutions and awareness of ServiceNow workflow features.
Managing Challenges:
- Deliver an ambitious Programme of work in fixed timeframe, but with fast-pace and dynamic environment.
- Manage multiple internal and external dependencies with competing priorities and deadlines which may impact overall delivery.
- Manage complex stakeholders across multi-region teams and products.
- Negotiate and influence conflicting decisions and outcomes.
