We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Legal Counsel – Global Payment Solutions Legal

Purpose of the role

The Legal Counsel will provide negotiation support to HSBC’s Corporate and Institutional Banking business, specifically the Global Payment Solutions business. The role will ensure that legal risk is fully identified and managed, transactions are supported effectively and matters are escalated in a timely manner.

In this role, you will:

  • Under the supervision of the Senior Legal Counsel – Global Payment Solutions, provide negotiation support to the Global Payment Solutions business on day-to-day transactions.
  • Ensure that documentation supported by the role holder adheres to Global Payment Solutions policies and procedures and effectively manages legal risk.
  • Use agreed channels to escalate matters where necessary, ensuring that the business receives timely and appropriate legal support.Provide proactive, succinct and commercially focused negotiation guidance.Support product implementations from a legal perspective to facilitate successful and timely execution.
  • Ensure negotiated transactions comply fully with Global Payment Solutions policies, procedures, playbooks and negotiation guidelines.
  • Escalate matters, where necessary, to Product Legal colleagues supporting Global Payment Solutions in the relevant region or country.
  • Maintain and develop positive and professional working relationships with colleagues within Global Payment Solutions Legal, Global Payment Solutions Implementations, Global Corporate and Institutional Banking Legal, country legal teams and relevant business departments.
  • Participate effectively as part of the Global Payment Solutions Legal and Global Payment Solutions Implementations teams.Collaborate with implementation project managers and lawyers globally, as required.Support and work with other internal negotiators to share and apply best practice.
  • Contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives and make effective use of document management systems.

To be successful you will:

  • Be a qualified lawyer, preferably from a common law jurisdiction, with a minimum of eight to ten years’ post-qualification experience in banking and finance law.
  • Have a strong understanding of domestic banking and finance law and transactions.
  • Have experience in payments, preferably, although this is not essential.
  • Have knowledge of the HSBC Group’s corporate structures and businesses, together with a clear understanding of HSBC’s corporate values.
  • Demonstrate the ability to meet deadlines and manage competing workloads.
  • Be able to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate lateral thinking and effective problem-solving skills.
