  • As Associate Director, CIB Business Risk, AI Governance, within the Risk Capability Office, you’ll lead and shape global AI governance and risk reviews for Corporate and Institutional Banking.
  • You’ll act as a subject matter expert in overseeing risk assessments and be an enabler in ensuring that all CIB Generative AI use cases are progressed through their life cycle in a safe, sustainable method.
  • The role requires confident engagement with senior stakeholders (GCB 3 and above), strong programme management discipline, and the ability to influence across multiple regions and functions.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the CIB AI governance agenda for all CIB globally, ensuring consistent standards and controls across regions.
  • Define and maintain governance processes for all CIB AI use cases (intake, risk assessment, approvals, oversight, monitoring, issues and lessons learned).
  • Provide advisory to use cases on how to what requirements they will need throughout their lifecycle, both at BAU but also via the established processes for Governance – helping them navigate various systems, for various risk assessments and ensuring they are aware of the latest requirements
  • Regularly update the governance requirements as new regulations/requirements are rolled out to ensure adherence
  • Consistently aim to simplify, and create efficiencies in processes to ensure use cases are not burdened with duplication while ensuring risk reviews are performed to the highest standard
  • Provide credible challenge and risk advice to senior stakeholders on AI initiatives, including key risks such as data quality, privacy, security, resilience, third-party dependency, and customer impact.
  • Establish clear roles and responsibilities across the AI lifecycle, ensuring appropriate human oversight and decision-making.
  • Develop and deliver governance forums, steering routines and reporting, ensuring decisions are documented and actions are tracked to completion.
  • Design and track key risk indicators and management information for AI, escalating emerging risks and control gaps with practical remediation plans.
  • Partner with Technology, Data, Compliance, Legal and Operations to embed responsible AI practices into delivery and run processes.
  • Support internal reviews, audits and regulatory engagements related to AI governance, ensuring timely responses and sustainable remediation.
  • Contribute to capability building across Risk and the business through guidance, playbooks and targeted training on AI risk and governance.
  • Stay current on AI and fintech developments and translate external trends into improvements to governance and controls.

To be successful you will:

  • Proven experience in technology risk governance, business risk management or operational resilience governance and running/owning senior governance intiatives
  • Strong understanding of AI/ML concepts and common risk themes
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and “face off” with senior stakeholders, providing clear, constructive challenge and pragmatic solutions.
  • Strong programme and stakeholder management skills, with experience delivering outcomes across multiple teams, geographies and priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), able to translate complex technical topics into clear business and risk decisions.
  • Sound judgement, high integrity, and a track record of taking accountability for risk outcomes.
  • Degree-level education (or equivalent experience) in a relevant discipline (e.g., risk, technology, data, engineering, mathematics, or similar).

What additional skills will be good to have?

  • Experience implementing or operating AI governance frameworks, responsible AI practices, or AI risk controls at scale.
  • Familiarity with model risk management and validation concepts, including monitoring and performance management.
  • Knowledge of data governance, privacy, information security, and third-party/outsourcing risk as they relate to AI solutions.
  • Exposure to regulatory expectations and industry standards relevant to AI and model governance.
  • Certifications (desirable):
  • Project/Delivery: PMP, PRINCE2, Agile certifications
  • AI Governance certifications
  • Cloud/Tech (relevant): AWS/Azure/GCP fundamentals or practitioner-level certifications
  • Experience working in global, matrixed organisations with cross-cultural stakeholder groups.
