We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Assistant Vice President - Central Approvals Team
Purpose of the role
The Central Approvals Team is a first line of defence global subject matter expert team responsible for managing the review and approval of financial promotions across HSBC Asset Management entities. The Central Approvals Team ensures that all marketing materials shared with clients and distribution partners meet the relevant regulatory requirements and comply with the Global Compliance Standards prescribed by HSBC. The team oversees the full process, from compliance review through approval, record-keeping and ongoing monitoring of financial promotion content across all markets and teams. It also aims to enable quicker and more efficient go-to-market for financial promotion content, supporting growth in sales engagement opportunities while ensuring adherence to all local regulatory requirements. This role sits within HSBC Asset Management Client Business, Centre of Excellence, and works closely with all other functions involved in the financial promotions management cycle to mitigate regulatory and operational risk.
As a senior member of the Central Approvals Team, a key responsibility is to support and deliver the objectives of the team. To succeed in this role, you will act as a subject matter expert and take responsibility for managing and leading country-specific operations within the scope of the Central Approvals Team. You will specialise in the regulatory requirements relating to financial promotion content and demonstrate strong risk management capability. You will also bring excellent influencing and stakeholder management skills, along with a strong understanding of business-to-business and business-to-business-to-consumer models, to operate effectively across a global stakeholder base.
In this role, you will be:
- Manage the end-to-end compliance review and approval of all financial promotion content across HSBC Asset Management throughout the full content life cycle, coordinating self-compliance and Regulatory Compliance approvals at the point of manufacture, point of distribution and point of customisation.
- Review all financial promotion and marketing materials produced across the business to ensure content is clear, accurate, compliant with applicable regulations, aligned to internal policies and Global Compliance Standards, and consistent with Treating Customers Fairly principles and HSBC Asset Management’s Treating Customers Fairly philosophy.
- Apply appropriate disclaimers and disclosures to all approved materials and maintain (with Regulatory Compliance agreement) a complete disclaimer and disclosure library for all markets and investment strategies, keeping it current for regulatory and policy changes.
- Maintain (with Regulatory Compliance agreement) the Global Compliance Checklist and ensure relevant standards, policies and procedures are developed, implemented, meet regulatory needs and are clearly understood, providing clear, accurate and timely guidance to stakeholders.
- Publish and maintain approved documents in global and local content repositories, including Seismic, ensuring robust record-keeping, auditability and effective version control across markets and teams.
- Manage ongoing compliance training and testing for content owners, marketing, client business and customisation teams (with Regulatory Compliance agreement), updating training and testing, the Global Compliance Checklist, and the disclaimer and disclosure library to reflect changes and ensure adoption.
- Conduct regular oversight and monitoring of financial promotions, including quarterly quality checks through sample document reviews, producing timely management information for governance meetings, identifying improvements, and embedding lessons learned to strengthen the control environment.
- Deliver strong risk and control management by adhering to risk, compliance, global standards and financial crime compliance requirements; preventing avoidable operational losses; avoiding or mitigating regulatory censure; ensuring no high-risk or repeat audit points; logging material breaches within required timescales with timely updates; applying the risk acceptance process where appropriate in line with data integrity management requirements; escalating control and reputational issues promptly; addressing audit and regulator issues in a timely manner; fostering a strong compliance culture; ensuring required training completion; optimising relations with regulators; and collaborating across functions including the Bangalore global service centre to support client-centric outcomes for institutional and wholesale clients.
To be successful you will be:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, business, law or a related field and Experience working with Regulatory Compliance professionals and responding to inquiries or requests for information.
- Strong experience in asset management compliance, with a focus on financial promotion content and Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze complex information.
- Understanding of regulatory requirements for financial promotions in the asset management industry
- Ability to interpret and apply the regulatory requirements w.r.t the financial promotion content.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with different teams and stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
