HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with operations in 64 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people to fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Assistant Director - Artificial intelligence

In this role, you will:

  • Establish and maintain a repeatable “AI Factory” model for scaling AI use cases globally across CIB Value Streams
  • Develop and continuously improve standardised deployment playbooks to ensure consistency, speed, and quality in AI rollouts.
  • Lead the transition from bespoke pilots to industrialised, utility-like AI deployments, reducing manual effort and error rates. Partner with Finance and Business Leads to baseline, forecast, and measure realised benefits (e.g., revenue uplift, cost reduction) for each AI deployment.
  • Conduct post-deployment performance reviews to recommend whether to scale, stop, or iterate on AI solutions, ensuring commercial discipline and ROI accountability.
  • Provide transparent reporting to senior stakeholders on realised value and lessons learned. Develop reusable onboarding, training, and communications toolkits to support business adoption and sustainability of AI solutions.
  • Build and nurture “AI Champion” networks to embed AI capabilities within BAU teams, ensuring a clean and effective handover from project to operations. Monitor adoption and usage post-handover, intervening to address barriers and prevent “shelf-ware.”
  • Embed approval, audit, and lifecycle controls into the AI rollout process, ensuring compliance with internal governance and external regulatory requirements.
  • Proactively identify and resolve delivery bottlenecks related to risk and compliance, enabling safe and scalable AI adoption across regions.
  • Drive the reuse of common AI capabilities across Value Streams, accelerating time to market and minimising duplication of effort. Maintain a central repository of reusable assets, best practices, and lessons learned to support continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

To be successful you will:

  • Deep understanding of AI technologies and their application to business problems.
  • Proven experience in deploying and scaling AI products in production environments, ideally in a global or multi-region context.
  • Familiarity with data management, model lifecycle governance, and AI model monitoring processes.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex concepts into actionable insights for technical and non-technical audiences. Experience in financial benefit tracking, business case development, and post-implementation review.
  • Demonstrated success in senior stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration. Experience with agile methodologies and change management in complex organisations.
  • Execution-oriented, with a track record of delivering measurable outcomes at pace. Strong relationship management and influencing skills, with the ability to build networks and drive adoption across diverse teams.
  • Confident communicator, able to engage and align stakeholders at all levels.
  • Passion for AI-driven business transformation and a commitment to responsible, sustainable innovation. Ability to adapt and pivot based on results, feedback, and evolving business needs.

You’ll achieve more when you join HSBC.
