Job Title: AVP - AI Risk Advisory and Governance
As an AI Risk Advisory SME, you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding HSBC’s adoption of Generative AI technologies. You’ll be responsible for reviewing and challenging Generative AI use cases from a holistic risk perspective, ensuring robust oversight across model risk, data risk, cyber risk, technology risk, and other emerging risk types. You’ll work closely with business, technology, and risk teams to ensure that AI solutions are deployed safely, ethically, and in line with HSBC’s risk appetite and regulatory expectations. You’ll also help business navigate the governance required for use cases to be brought from ideation to production, ensuring that the right procedures and processes are being followed and helping navigate the multiple risk areas.
In this role, you will:
- Risk Frameworks: Help Develop, enhance, and implement risk management assessments and controls tailored to Generative AI and advanced machine learning applications in conjunction with other colleagues across the bank.
- Governance: Help drive the governance lifecycles supporting with use case navigation across the various requirements and activities required for governance, also help create decks and deliverables, as well as coordinate inputs for the various governance meetings related to AI
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with business, technology, and risk partners to ensure risk considerations are embedded throughout the AI lifecycle—from ideation and development to deployment and monitoring.
- Help drive advisory activities to the following areas to help build, improve and create further efficiencies in some of the following areas:
- Model Risk Oversight: Evaluate model development, validation, and monitoring practices to ensure compliance with internal and regulatory standards.
- Data Risk Management: Assess data sourcing, quality, privacy, and ethical considerations, ensuring responsible data use in AI solutions.
- Cyber & Technology Risk: Identify vulnerabilities and threats related to AI systems, including adversarial attacks, model theft, and system resilience.
- Regulatory Compliance: Monitor evolving regulatory requirements and industry best practices, ensuring HSBC’s AI risk management remains best-in-class.
- Training & Awareness: Support the upskilling of colleagues on AI risk topics, promoting a culture of responsible innovation.
To be successful you will:
- Experience: Experience (typically 4+ years) in AI/ML, risk management, or technology risk roles within financial services or a regulated environment.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of AI and machine learning techniques, with hands-on exposure to Generative AI models (e.g., LLMs, diffusion models, GANs).
- Risk Expertise: Demonstrated experience in multiple risk stripes - model risk, data risk, cyber risk, technology risk, and operational resilience.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to critically assess complex AI solutions and articulate risk exposures and mitigations to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to influence and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business, technology, and risk partners.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear, concise reports and presentations for senior management.
Desirable:
- Professional certifications in AI/ML, technology risk, or cyber security.
- Regulatory Awareness: Familiarity with relevant regulatory frameworks (e.g., PRA, FCA, EBA, GDPR, AI Act) and industry standards for AI risk management.
- Experience with Technology architecture or creating technology solutions
