Our technology teams sit within our Group Chief Information Office (GCIO), building the digital platforms, systems, and products our customers and colleagues use every day, keeping assets and data secure, and delivering exceptional digital experiences.

Engineering builds and supports the systems that help the bank function smoothly and adapt to changing customer and business needs. The department focuses on delivering dependable, high-quality technology solutions that are secure, scalable and fit for purposes.

What you’ll do

You’ll work with engineers, architects and business teams on technology that supports HSBC globally. Depending on your team, you could help develop new digital products, improve existing services, test and maintain systems, and support software that keeps the bank running. You’ll get hands-on with coding frameworks, programming languages, AI tools and DevOps practices, while learning how teams design solutions that are reliable, scalable and easy to support. You may also help monitor performance, investigate technical issues and recommend improvements. It’s practical engineering work, with support from experienced colleagues, on systems used by colleagues and customers around the world.

What you’ll learn

Over two years, you’ll build your engineering capability through technical training, skills coaching and practical learning. You’ll explore coding languages, tech stacks and engineering best practice through classroom sessions, self-led learning and hackathons, while developing a stronger understanding of how secure, scalable systems are built and improved. You’ll also have funding for industry-recognised certifications relevant to your role, with opportunities for further learning supported by your team. The programme is designed to help you grow both your technical depth and your confidence as a technology professional. By the end, you’ll have the tools, knowledge and momentum to deepen your expertise or start taking on greater ownership in engineering work.

Where you'll work

You’ll work in HSBC’s engineering community within the Global Chief Information Office, where teams build and support technology used across the bank. It’s a collaborative environment made up of engineers, architects and delivery specialists working across products, platforms and markets. You’ll be part of a modern office culture where teamwork, experimentation and continuous improvement are encouraged. Expect to work in a setting where technology is central to change, and where colleagues across functions come together to solve complex problems.

Eligiblity Criteria

To be eligible, you must:

• Be available to work full time from March 2027 or July 2027 onwards
• Have obtained, or expect to achieve, a minimum GPA of 4.0/5.0 or 3.0/4.0 (or overseas equivalent, as shown on your official university transcript/degree certificate)
• Be a recent graduate with less than 2 years’ full-time work experience, or be due to graduate by July 2027
• Be fluent in both English and Mandarin
• Be legally permitted to work in mainland China for the full duration of the graduate programme and beyond, without requiring HSBC visa sponsorship
