About the business area
HSBC Private Banking supports business owners and their families with complex financial needs, helping them grow, manage and preserve their wealth for the future. Clients are supported by specialist teams including Relationship Managers, Investment Counsellors, Financial Planners, Client Service Executives and Credit Specialists, who work together to deliver tailored solutions and a high level of personal service.
Who you are
You’re someone who enjoys building trust, listening carefully and understanding what matters to people. You don’t need to arrive already fluent in private banking or finance — what matters most is your curiosity, your drive to learn and the way you work with others. You could be a great fit if you communicate clearly, stay organised and take pride in delivering a high standard of service. You’re proactive, thoughtful and able to manage your time well, especially as you’ll be balancing work with degree-level study. If you’re motivated by learning, open to feedback and excited by the idea of building long-term client relationships in a professional environment, this could be a strong place to start. Required qualifications: you’ll need to meet the relevant apprenticeship and academic entry requirements for a BSc (Hon) Degree in Applied Finance.
What you'll do
You’ll support Relationship Managers and specialist colleagues while learning how Private Banking works in practice. Over time, you’ll build an understanding of the full client journey and how different experts come together to deliver tailored solutions. You could help prepare for client meetings, support day-to-day relationship activity, respond to client needs and contribute ideas that improve service and team effectiveness. As your confidence grows, you’ll take on more responsibility and begin working more directly with clients. It’s a role where strong listening, relationship-building and attention to detail really matter.
What you'll learn
Over 54 months, you’ll build a broad understanding of Private Banking while working towards a BSc (Hon) Degree in Applied Finance. You’ll learn how relationship teams support wealthy clients, how different private banking specialisms work together and how tailored financial solutions are delivered responsibly. Alongside on-the-job learning, you’ll benefit from study days, mentoring, coaching and access to a wide range of learning tools and materials. By the end of the programme, you’ll have stronger banking knowledge, greater professional confidence and a solid foundation for a long-term career in Private Banking.
Where you'll work
You’ll work in HSBC’s Private Banking business in London, alongside Relationship Managers and specialist teams who support high-net-worth clients with complex financial needs. It’s a professional, client-focused environment where collaboration, discretion and high-quality service matter every day. You’ll be part of a supportive team culture with access to mentors, development support and colleagues across different areas of the business. Over time, you’ll gain exposure to how the wider relationship team works together to deliver a joined-up client experience.
Eligibility Criteria
You’ll complete a BSc (Hons) in Degree in Applied Finance through the University of Exeter, so you’ll need to meet the relevant apprenticeship and academic entry requirements. To be eligible, you must:

- Have obtained 5, or more, GCSEs at a minimum of grade 4/C
