Asset Management invests on behalf of HSBC’s worldwide customer base of retail and private clients, intermediaries, corporates and institutions. It connects our clients with investment opportunities around the world through an international network of offices.

Who you are

You’re analytical, driven and interested in how investment strategies work in practice. You enjoy working with numbers, interpreting complex information and learning from experienced professionals around you. You could be a great fit if you pick up new concepts quickly, stay motivated under pressure and bring a calm, positive mindset when things don’t go to plan. You work well in teams, pay attention to detail and want to apply what you learn to real projects. Alternative investing is putting money into assets beyond shares, bonds, and cash—like property, infrastructure, private companies, or commodities—often to diversify and potentially earn more, but with higher complexity and harder-to-sell investments. If you’re curious and want to build your understanding from the inside, this could be a strong fit.

What you'll do

You’ll work with senior colleagues and fund managers on live projects in Alternatives investing. You could support benchmarking and fundraising activity, research market trends and investment opportunities, and help interpret industry insights that inform decisions. You may also contribute to quantitative and cash flow modelling, manage your workload across team priorities, and help solve problems as they come up in a fast-moving environment. It’s practical work where attention to detail matters, and where you’ll build a clearer understanding of hedge fund strategies, asset classes and how investment teams operate day to day. The internship also includes structured assessments aligned to securing a graduate role, giving you chances to demonstrate how you think, collaborate and deliver, through tasks such as project work, presentations, interviews or skills-based evaluations.

What you'll learn

You’ll start with a week of structured training covering both technical and behavioural skills, giving you a strong base for the rest of the internship. From there, you’ll keep building your expertise through hands-on project work, regular feedback and close collaboration with your team. You’ll deepen your understanding of alternatives investing, including how quantitative thinking, cash flow modelling and market insight support decision-making in practice. The environment is fast-moving, so you’ll also strengthen your attention to detail, adaptability and professional confidence as you learn. By the end of the internship, you’ll have a clearer understanding of this specialist investment area and a stronger sense of how your skills could grow within it.

You’ll work in the Alternatives investment environment within International Wealth and Premier Banking, alongside senior colleagues and fund managers focused on specialist investment strategies. It’s a collaborative office culture where deep expertise, market insight and careful analysis all matter. You’ll be part of a professional setting that values precision, teamwork and thoughtful discussion, with exposure to a specialist area of investing where different perspectives and strong partnership help shape decisions.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, you must:

• Be available to work full time for 10 weeks commencing June 2027
• Have obtained, or expect to achieve, a 2:1 degree classification or higher, or an overseas equivalent
• Be expecting to graduate in 2028
• Be in the penultimate year of your undergraduate studies
• Be fluent in English
