Our technology teams sit within our Group Chief Information Office (GCIO), building the digital platforms, systems, and products our customers and colleagues use every day, keeping assets and data secure, and delivering exceptional digital experiences.

Within GCIO, our Data teams protect, deliver, and enhance the value of data and information assets, turning vast data into powerful insights, helping us better understand our customers, our business, and the world we work in.  

Who you are

You’re curious, analytical and excited by the idea of turning data into decisions. You enjoy solving problems, spotting patterns and asking better questions — not just accepting the first answer. You could be a great fit if you like working with data, learning new tools and explaining complex ideas in a way others can actually use. You’re detail-focused, adaptable and motivated to keep improving, especially in fast-moving environments. You take ownership of your work, collaborate well with others and want to understand how data, technology and business decisions connect. You don’t need to know everything from the start. If you bring curiosity, a learning mindset and an interest in helping shape a more data-driven future, we’ll help you build the rest.

What you’ll do

You’ll work on projects that help HSBC use data more effectively across the business. Depending on your team, you could help manage, analyse and improve data used in decision-making, regulatory reporting and digital transformation. You’ll work with colleagues across business, product and technology teams to connect data to real business needs, and use tools such as SQL, Python, Qlik or Spark to explore trends and create clear, useful insights. You may also support work that improves data quality, governance and reporting, helping make sure information is accurate, reliable and ready to use. It’s a practical role where you’ll learn by working on real data challenges with people across the bank.

What you’ll learn

Your learning starts on day one and builds over two years through technical training, self-led learning and hands-on experiences. You’ll deepen your understanding of data movement, governance, management, quality and reporting, while exploring new tools, languages and platforms used across HSBC. You’ll also have funding for industry-recognised certifications, with potential extra support for role-specific qualifications. Hackathons, innovation projects and collaborative events will help you apply what you learn in practical ways and build confidence working with others. By the end of the programme, you’ll have stronger technical depth, a clearer understanding of how data supports decision-making and regulation, and the skills to grow as a data practitioner in a global organisation.

Eligiblity Criteria

To be eligible, you must:

• Be available to work full time from March 2027 or July 2027 onwards
• Have obtained, or expect to achieve, a minimum GPA of 4.0/5.0 or 3.0/4.0 (or overseas equivalent, as shown on your official university transcript/degree certificate)
• Be a recent graduate with less than 2 years’ full-time work experience, or be due to graduate by July 2027
• Be fluent in both English and Mandarin
• Be legally permitted to work in mainland China for the full duration of the graduate programme and beyond, without requiring HSBC visa sponsorship
