About the business area

Our technology teams sit within our Group Chief Information Office (GCIO), building the digital platforms, systems, and products our customers and colleagues use every day, keeping assets and data secure, and delivering exceptional digital experiences.

Our cybersecurity team designs, implements and operates control to manage risk. It defines our group cyber security standards, oversees the security of our network, applications and infrastructure, provides round-the-clock monitoring and security incident response services.

What you’ll do

You’ll work with cyber specialists in a team that helps protect HSBC and its customers around the clock. Depending on your placement, you could support teams in Offensive Security, Vulnerability Management, Cryptography or Data Security. Your work might include helping identify vulnerabilities, supporting threat simulations, assessing cyber risks, protecting data and secure communications, or contributing to risk reviews and consultancy activity. You’ll work with experienced specialists and get exposure to how emerging technologies, including AI and quantum computing, are shaping cybersecurity. It’s practical, high-impact work where you’ll learn how cyber teams respond to real threats and help keep a global organisation secure.

What you’ll learn

This two-year programme gives you a strong foundation in cybersecurity through live projects, on-the-job learning and specialist support. You’ll build technical knowledge using cyber labs and platforms, while also having access to industry-recognised certifications that help you develop credible, future-ready skills. As you progress, you’ll strengthen your understanding of cyber risk, security controls and emerging technologies such as AI and quantum computing. You’ll also grow your communication, collaboration and networking skills, because strong cyber professionals need to influence as well as investigate. By the end of the programme, you’ll have a broader view of cybersecurity in a global bank and the confidence to keep building your expertise in this fast-moving field.

Where you'll work

You’ll work in HSBC’s global cyber function within the Global Chief Information Office, alongside more than 2,000 specialists helping protect the bank and its customers around the clock. It’s a highly collaborative environment spanning areas like Offensive Security, Vulnerability Management, Cryptography and Data Security. You’ll be part of a team culture that values curiosity, shared expertise and staying ahead of emerging threats. Eligiblity Criteria

To be eligible, you must:

• Be available to work full time from March 2027 or July 2027 onwards
• Have obtained, or expect to achieve, a minimum GPA of 4.0/5.0 or 3.0/4.0 (or overseas equivalent, as shown on your official university transcript/degree certificate)
• Be a recent graduate with less than 2 years’ full-time work experience, or be due to graduate by July 2027
• Be fluent in both English and Mandarin
• Be legally permitted to work in mainland China for the full duration of the graduate programme and beyond, without requiring HSBC visa sponsorship
