About the business area

The Chief Operating Office (COO) drives operational performance, service excellence and consistency across HSBC and its Global Service Centers. Working closely with teams across the bank, the office improves how work gets done, builds future-ready capabilities and uses technology, including AI and automation, to create smarter services for customers and colleagues.

Who you are

You’re curious, adaptable and interested in how things work — and how they could work better. You enjoy solving problems, working with different people and turning information into practical ideas. You could be a strong fit if you’re comfortable using data to spot patterns, support decisions and explain your thinking clearly. You stay organized, take ownership of your work and are open to learning in a fast-moving environment. You don’t need to arrive with deep banking knowledge. What matters most is your mindset, your willingness to learn and your interest in areas like operations, strategy, process improvement, technology or data-driven change.

What you'll do

You’ll help turn data and insight into practical improvements across Operations. Working with US and CIB COO teams, you may analyze operational, financial or risk data, map processes, identify opportunities to improve efficiency and support projects that strengthen service quality. You’ll work with colleagues across teams and functions, contribute to recommendations and help track actions, risks and outcomes. Along the way, you’ll see how business analysis supports better decisions and helps teams deliver change at scale.

What you'll learn

You’ll build a strong foundation in business analysis through hands-on experience, structured learning and support from experienced colleagues. You’ll develop practical skills in Excel, data analysis, data visualization, process improvement and project coordination. You’ll also strengthen skills that matter across any career: communication, teamwork, stakeholder management, problem-solving and presenting ideas clearly. Through live projects, you’ll see how operations, risk, technology and transformation connect — and how analysis helps turn ideas into action. By the end of the internship, you’ll have a broader understanding of HSBC and a stronger set of skills you can take into future roles.

Where you'll work

You’ll work in the US and CIB Chief Operating Office, supporting teams focused on operational excellence, transformation and service delivery. You’ll collaborate with colleagues across functions, markets and Global Service Centers, giving you exposure to how operations supports different parts of HSBC. It’s a connected, collaborative environment where data, process, technology and customer experience come together to improve how the bank works.
